The Future of TV begins with sevenload and BRAVIA Internet video

Today, the Social Media Network sevenload.com became an official partner on all Sony products with the BRAVIA Internet Video functionality. Just in time for the highly anticipated IFA 2010, sevenload’s IPTV program will be pre-installed on new Sony products and will offer more than 100 different video channels. sevenload has partnered with various content producers to make more than 3,000 free videos available for the launch on August 11, 2010. If you own one of these products, you will be able to experience this new content on new BRAVIA LCD TVs, Blu-ray players or new home theater systems by connecting them with the internet.

Users can quickly access sevenload’s daily updated entertainment program on any BRAVIA Internet Video enabled device as well as easily browse the videos with their remote control and discover the entire sevenload content catalogue. sevenload provides Sony with up-to-date video shows and selected premium TV content. You can enjoy six show genres featuring: music magazines, comedy and entertainment shows, the latest gaming magazines, and popular TV classics with “Lassie” or “Bonanza” – and of course, professional reports and documentaries from National Geographic and newspapers.

All of the videos are optimized to ensure the best viewing experience on the Sony BRAVIA LCD TVs, Blu-ray players and home theater systems. To connect to sevenload, you simply need to connect your BRAVIA Internet Video device to a DSL broadband connection via cable or WiFi. The new sevenload IPTV program will be enabled through a free update to Sony’s home theater products within 48 hours after activation.

Drum Roll Please: New sevenload Show Designs!

The sevenload show pages have always been at the heart of sevenload and an integral part of how the site has grown and developed. That’s why we have an exciting announcement to make- the show pages have been reworked, redesigned and are now live! Our concept team, developers and designers have really outdone themselves this time.

A rehaul of the design templates was necessary, so from now on, content partners are able to choose from pre-designed background themes for their shows (branding for the shows is still however, a major part of the look and feel of the show pages). In addition to enhancing several of our standard features such as ratings and comments, we have also made a few updates such as adding a new “backstage” section that provides more in depth information about shows as well as links to direcltly to a content partner’s blog (if they choose). Furthermore, we’ve added a new “Become Active” section that lets you bookmark, share, recommend and even twitter your favorite episodes. Finally, also added an episode slider that lets you quickly browse all eiposodes.

New show pages

We hope that you are also as impressed with the re-designs as we are and hope you enjoy your new show page(s). Check out the new features, including the much larger homepage player in 16:9 format (and in HD!) and video slider. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the new show pages, please let us know- we’re happy to answer any questions you may have.

Cooliris and sevenload- 3D Search Display Results

Are you ready for a new kind of search results viewing experience on sevenload? Yeah, we are too. So how about a 3D wall styled display that lets you surf through results faster than ever? That’s exactly what we’ve done, together the integration of our new partner Cooliris‘ application.

Now you can view photo and video search results in the normal detailed or thumbnail view as well as select to look at them on the sleek Cooliris 3D wall. To activate this feature, simply click on the Cooliris logo in the search results sidebar (next to the buttons for the detailed and thumbnail views). We think you’ll be impressed with the (seemingly) seamless loading time and how quickly and easily you can browse results- just run the mouse back and forth over the photos or videos you’re interested in viewing right on the 3D wall.

If you’ve already installed the Cooliris plugin, you can also choose to click on the “Launch Cooliris” link (which is located on the bottom right side under the navigation bar) to directly launch the 3D wall to view videos and photos in the full application. This feature is not available via the normal search results, however you can use it for all of the photos and videos on sevenload. If you’re interested in trying the feature out, you can download the Cooliris plugin here: http://www.cooliris.com/download-all.php

Here’s a preview of how the Cooliris 3D wall looks on sevenload:

We hope you enjoy this new feature and browsing the search results with the Cooliris plugin. As always, we’re happy to receive any feedback you may have.

Feature Updates

Hey sevenloaders- we realize that we haven’t given you an official update about any new features for quite some time. So today, we’d like to give you the chance to find out what’s new on sevenload.

Video Deep-Linking
Our deep-linking function is a really cool way to show your friends exactly where the best part of a video is- without the fuss of waiting for the punchline. To deep-link a video simply enter #t= followed by the exact minute and second that you want to link. For example: #t=9m33s will take you directly to the 9 minute 33rd second mark in the video. This feature also simplifies bookmarking and saving your favorite part of a video so you can watch it again later and/or post it for your friends on facebook and Twitter. Here’s an example link: http://en.sevenload.com/videos/ibZPN8b#t=9m33s

RSS-Feeds
A lot of you have asked if it’s possible to subscribe directly to a show’s RSS-Feed so that you can stay up to date with the newest episodes. Well sevenloaders, your wish is our command! You now have the ability to subscribe to a single show’s feed directly. We’ve even taken this a step further and also added feeds for tracking the activities of a specific channel, subchannel and/or show.

Improved Portal Selection
You’ve probably noticed that sevenload is continously expanding into new countries and creating new portals for them as we go along. This led to our dropdown portal selection menu to become rather longer. So long in fact, that we decided to do something about it. From now on, when you click on the flag representing the country portal you’re currently on a new portal selection window will pop up as an overlay giving you a great overview of all the sevenload portals.

Editing Comments
This is a feature that we’ve re-integrated: the ability to edit a comment after you’ve posted it. This handy feature lets you either adjust your message and/or fix any little typos that might have slipped in.

Omega Navigation

For quite some time now, we’ve had the features “More Photos” and “More Videos” available to our users. This preview/overview can be used to select other/new photos and videos from your own content as well as that of others.

Why did we decide to incorporate this feature?- Frankly, we felt that having users simply “click through” to other photos and videos was not the best solution. So we decided to do something about it and offer all of you something new.

Today we released the new “Omega Navigation”- which offers you a new way to discover content on sevenload. As you can tell from the screenshot, this feature design was inspired by the omega symbol (and created by our technical team leader, Tom).

We hope you enjoy this new feature! :)

Number of Views

We have recently received a lot of feedback from the community that the numbers of views that videos, photos and shows have are not being displayed correctly. We are working furiously on a solution already right now to ensure that the correct number of views are being displayed- and remember, if you are looking to see where our enhancements and further development currently stand, check out this blog entry.

Maintenance

During the night of Tuesday to Wednesday we will be carrying out short-term maintenance work to sevenload from approx. 3am. During this time period it will not be possible to use sevenload.
This work will serve to ensure that sevenload is fast and efficient in the future. We would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We expect to be back online again as soon as possible.

Player Preview

We would like to show you a little taster of the future Flash player of sevenload. The player is already in use on the video page and will also be used in the special for Molotov TV.

The player has already been in place for several days now but is still in its early Beta version stages- it still requires some small improvements and a little fine tuning until we will replace the other video players on the entire site with the new system.

If you have any constructive ideas or suggestions of how the player can be improved or which features are required for your optimum video enjoyment – simply make a comment here in the Blog! We are looking forward to your feedback!

New Slide Show Widget!

As previously announced we have a new widget: the Slideshow also shows all pictures from an album on request and alongside the Photo Stack, the Photo Wall and the Photo Slider is the fourth sevenload widget you can install. Here is a screenshotexample:

A scaling down to smaller sizes is currently not possible as with the other widgets, so that with a width of 750 pixels one either has to select a very wide layout or build one’s own small page, which is accessed via popup for example or a new target in HTML. For the integration into classic weblogs, the most of which do not offer more space than 500 pixels in the width, an update of all widgets will be taking place soon, so that the width or height all widgets can be individually adjusted.

Update: As Töpferschnecke commented here, the sizes can be altered manually. I meant however the option of generating the code on the widget page depending on the desired size! But the main thing is that it works and it’s fun ;)
