Important Info: Server Move
We will be expanding our main server by adding an additional network site- overnight on Wednesday night. This means that during this time period (11pm on 04.11.2007 to 2am on 04.12.2007) sevenload will not be fully functional as some internal routing and load-balancing change-overs are necessary.
We’d like the chance right now to thank you for your understanding in this matter- which of course after our little move will leave sevenload with its usual network capacity (and then some!). Should any of you have any questions or concerns about this server move, please contact our Support.
Update: The move was successful and as of 2:20am sevenload has been back up and running withough any issues. Thanks for your patience.
Integration of a New Server System in our Data Network
We will be integrating a bunch of new server systems today, which might eventually cause brief delays in video streams. We’d like to apologize to our users in advance and ask that you be patient as these steps are necessary for us to allow the onslaught of our growing user community to continue growing and to make it possible for sevenload videos to be quickly fed to our users in the future.
After the adjustments have been made, we will have a total connection of more than 10,5 GBit available- which should provide for us for quite well for the next few months. *I will also introduce our partner and carrier in this blog in the next couple of weeks.
Changes to the URL Structure
In addition to our usual bug fixing we’ve just decided to launch a new URL structure for sevenload. Starting today we will be using a country ID as the sub domain in order to correctly display the user’s chosen language. The user interface’s English version can be reached at http://en.sevenload.com and the German version is available at http://de.sevenload.com.
As soon as the external application wants to access sevenload’s URL structure, these changes will be relevant with regard to the development of external Plug-ins. Likewise, in addition to the country ID, Permalinks which are shown directly on individual photos and videos will also be expanded. This Blog is the of course terribly important for all of those who might be able to help with potential enhancements for sevenload. There are two formats which are as follows:
Version A
http://{{COUNTRYID}}.sevenload.com/{{TYP}}/{{ITEMID}}/{{TITLE}}
Version B
http://{{COUNTRYID}}.sevenload.com/{{TYP}}/{{ITEMID}}-
{{LISTENID|FOLDERID}}/{{TITLE}}
Version A should be used for the development of external applications. Version B is simply an enhanced version which can produce additional details for display on the sevenload website. The new URLs have the following variables:
- {{COUNTRYID}} = The specific country ID for the according language which can be selected. The current possible values are “de” and “en”.
- {{TYP}} = this value will tell you whether a photo or video can be found under the particular link. The possible values are “images” and “videos” in English whereas they are “bilder” and “videos” in German.
- {{ITEMID}} = This 7 character code is the only reference given in order to select the photo or video.
- {{LISTENID|FOLDERID}} = In addition to that, under Version B’s URL you will find a description or listing ID for links from searches or usual lists such as the „most viewed videos“. Alternatively, you can also enter an album name via the folder ID. The values which are separated from the item ID via a minus symbol will affect the version of sevenload in that the preceding and subsequent search results or album contents will be displayed as an optional navigation aid.
- {{TITLE}} = In order to be able to read the URL more easily, the item’s title will also be displayed at the end. *We had mentioned this previously in our Blog about a sevenload re-launch.
What’s important to remember when using these new URLs is that the item’s old URL will also still exist to support downward compatibility. In addition, we want to point out that some Plugins needed for integration on sevenload (ex. in known Blog software and Blog systems) might need to be patched again.
Maintenance & New Features
It’s going to be another long night here at sevenload: We are going to perform maintenance tonight from 10 pm until 6 am tomorrow, in order to incorporate some new features and work out a couple of details. During this time, sevenload is going to be down (either partially or fully) but any externally embedded contents will still be fully functional.
Tomorrow morning we will add the new features in a Blog, one by one.
Update: The following features are already ready to go! Please feel free to comment on any of them in our Blog!
- Feature: New Point System on sevenload
- Feature: Altered Profile Status
- Feature: Edit Photos
- Announcement: Upload Time Extended Briefly
- Feature: Re-launch of the Video Start Page
Temporary Peering Problems with KPN/Telia T-Online
Unfortunately, our system has been recording peering problems for the last couple of hours over KPN and Telia’s networks in relation to T-Online networks in isolated areas.
According to user information, the problem is on the side of the carrier which can create a slow and unstable page load on sevenload for forwarding a video. Because of a far-reaching video re-routing we can solve this problem for almost all locations so that only a couple of very small user regions remain affected. There are still 2 locations which need to be side-stepped which are on KPN and Telia networks that could still cause some problems for T-Online customers.
We are staying in close contact with the responsible network providers and are trying to quickly come up with a solution to this problem, but until then we are sorry for any users which have been affected by this inconvenience and ask for your understanding.
UPDATE (02.30 Uhr): The repairs were successful and all T-Online network connections are functioning normally again.
The 10,000th Upload…
…was made today at 9:22pm by SkyKat with her photo “Rhyolite – Bottle House“.
Thanks a lot! We’re really pleased about how many uploads we’ve had up to now and how quickly sevenload has been growing- keep it up!
The sevenload Blog
This is the first entry for sevenload’s official blog.
sevenload is a new community/platform for managing and sharing photos and videos which utilize so-called Web 2.0 technologies. We will be explaing some of sevenload’s features in detail here in the next few days.
Ibrahim Evsan (sevenload’s CEO and Founder) and I (Chief Software Architect) work together, along with our development team, to take care of and develop the platform. sevenload is currently in a Beta Phase. It is possible that during sevenload’s operation certain bugs and disturbances might pop up and we’d like to apologize for this in advance. Our developers literally work around the clock- so that sevenload can constantly be enhanced and upgraded.
We would like to take the time here to say that we really want to have an open dialogue at sevenload. We want our users to actively participate in sevenload and are looking forward to having an active and inspiring community. In order to make active participation possible, we will be releasing several interfaces (APIs) for developers as well as asking for tips and feedback from our users.
We’ve already received mention from several bloggers, among them is Emily Chang:
